Somersault – Rudder Repair The lower section of the alloy rudder shaft is worn. The area is currently wrapped up on [parcel tape in the photoThe wear is not massive, .7 of a mm but this still enough to make the shaft sloppy especially as the top nylon bush is well worn. The plan here is to make a tool to round off the repair which will be made using epoxy/graphite/colloidal mix. The tool is essentially 120 grit sandpaper wrapped in glass fibre. I added a short piece of wood to help turn the tool.I thoroughly cleaned the worn area and scuffed the area using a thane cutter to scour the surface.Immediately after cleaning I coated the worn area with the west epoxy mix. Will see in the morning if it has worked. The shaft with the epoxy/graphite fared in.Bearing dimensions. Keep in mind that the measurement include existing wear. Leave a Reply Cancel replyYou must be logged in to post a comment.
